How To Be A Happier Person

Sometimes life can get you down to the extend that you become a different person to the one you pictured years ago. Like they say, "Misery Loves Company". You then start to make everyone around you miserable because that is how you feel, or you tend to attract miserable people in your life, which creates a vicious circle of misery. In turn, you have bad relationships with friends and family and you wonder what happened to the happy kid you used to be?

There is good news however...You can be a healthier and happier person by considering the choices you make each moment of the day. Think about the impact your decisions have each day. By choosing one of the following, you can stay a happy person and make your world a more peaceful place.

1. Use positive talk with yourself and with others.

The words you say to yourself each day make a great impact on your perspective and what happens to you each day. Negative words and comments from others often negate the positive feelings we have about ourselves. Remember that you are fabulous, wonderful and can make your dreams happen. So, "toot your horn" In a positive way.

2. Show gratitude for what you have no matter what your circumstances in life.

Whether you keep a daily gratitude list or journal, show thanks to your higher power, your parents and your friends for the difference they have made in your life. Gratitude for all things, regardless of their outcome or circumstance, will help you to gain a different perspective on your life and the choices you make.

3. Invest time in a relationship that needs nurturing.

All relationships, even with oneself, take time and an investment in the other person. Spend time getting to know your parent, grandparent, a neighbor you haven't met, your best friend and partner. Find out one small detail that you may not know - favorite color, favorite poem, or favorite time of day. Take the time and the time you spend with them will be truly rewarding.

4. Replay wonderful and pleasurable times in your life.

Each of us has accomplished great things in our life, no matter what the size. And, these are the moments which we want to remember - first day at school, a smile or hug from a best friend, grass growing, surviving an illness, finishing a race, a child swinging high on a swing, etc. Remember these times. They belong to you. Share them with others.

5. Practice a spontaneous act of kindness each day.

Opportunities come to each of us from the moment we wake up to going to bed that we may miss in being able to do a kind deed. Be in the moment each day. When that opportunity exists, take hold of it. Do a good deed. No matter how small - clean the sidewalk or your room, help someone with packages, read to a small child, visit someone who doesn't have family close-by, volunteer your time to build a house, or go for a walk with yourself. Be kind to yourself and to someone else each day.

6. Commit to a goal and follow-through each day, taking it one small step at a time.

Dreams can come true, if you take them one step at a time. Eating more than "a elephant's ear" may give you indigestion and heartburn! Decide what goal. Commit a time period each day, even if it is 5 minutes. Make a calendar note and place it where you will see the note. Then, do it. Reward yourself at the end of the week for committing to a goal and following through.

7. Exercise your body and your mind daily.

Stimulate your thinking process and exercise your eyes - read! Listen to positive audiotapes and exercise your sense of hearing. Do more than listen - take notes and exercise your right to act and put into action what you have heard. Do something fun for your body - jump rope, play hopscotch, march in place instead of standing, DANCE, DANCE, DANCE. Or, make your "bucket list" and learn to skateboard, scuba dive, attend a conference, plan an event, or experience another culture.

Be Happy. Stay Happy. Happiness was given to you at birth. The rest is up to YOU.
